6 Things to Look for in a Family Home

How exciting; you’re searching for your family home. Congratulations! This must be an awfully exciting time for you. Unfortunately, house hunting can also be very stressful. To make it easier, I have listed 6 things I think are essential when it comes to family home hunting. If your new home has the following 6 things, you can bet you’ve found a great place to live:

1. Lots of Room

If you have babies or are planning on having babies, you won’t need a lot of room for them right now. However, babies grow FAST. They’ll soon be mischievous toddlers, before turning into cheeky pre-teens and troublesome teenagers. This also means that they’ll acquire a lot of stuff. You need to make sure your family home has enough room for your kids, and all of your kids stuff. Not forgetting you, your other half, and their stuff! If you don’t mind moving one day, then this won’t matter too much now. However, if you’re looking for a forever home, you need plenty of room.

2. A Great Kitchen

The kitchen is considered the heart of the home by many families. You usually eat in here, cook in here, and have hot drinks and catch ups in here. A great kitchen is definitely a plus when it comes to selecting the perfect home for your family.

3. A Good Location

The location of your home will vary depending on how you like to do your food shopping, and other regular tasks you need to complete. In general, I think it’s wise to choose your family home so that it’s fairly central to the town, shops, and amenities that your children may want to have access to, like parks. It isn’t a great idea to have it in the middle of nowhere! A letting agents in Dereham, for example, could advise you on suitable locations for your family.

4. A Big Garden

Children love nothing more than playing in a huge garden. A big garden is not only perfect for 3 legged races and playing fetch with your dog, but for having slides, trampolines, and paddling pools too. Imagine the fun you and your children could have without ever leaving your property!

5. Nice Neighbours

Nice neighbours should not be taken for granted. You don’t want loud, booming music playing when you’re trying to get your baby to sleep, nor do you want to hear arguments and shouting at all hours of the night. To get an idea of what the neighbours are like, try to visit the property you’re looking at on different days at different times.

6. Good Schools Nearby

Your children will spend a lot of time at school, so making sure you trust the schools nearby is important. You can’t put a price on a good school! If you have your eye on one school in particular, you’ll need to make sure that you fall within the catchment area so that your child gets in. It’s always best to make sure there are a few schools you trust though, just to be sure.

Look for these 6 things and your family will be content in your new home!
